Lecture: Female Political Leadership
4 March, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
During the recent Covid-19 pandemic, female political leaders across the globe have received almost universal praise for their handling of this unprecedented crisis. Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand has been lauded as the figurehead of empathetic leadership; Nicola Sturgeon’s leading of Scotland’s measured approach has earned her praise from the news media; Taiwan’s Tsai Ing-wen’s leadership has kept deaths from Covid-19 in single figures. Yet still only 10% of world leaders are women.
In this session Professor Candida Yates and PhD Researcher Amy Tatum from Bournemouth University will explore the barriers that women face when running or holding political office. We will discuss the stereotypes attached to women in political leadership, the challenges faced by women leaders and the psychological drivers behind our reactions to women in positions of political leadership.
The lecture will be held online and delivered via Zoom. To reserve your place, please email email@example.com with a contact email address for the lecture.
