Year 7 Catch Up Funding

Funding allocation for Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch-up premium 2017 to 2018

Funding was directed towards improving students’ numeracy skills through a specific group in Year 7. Students covered four mathematical operations:

  • multiplication
  • division
  • subtraction
  • addition

Students were baseline tested at the start of the year and again at several stages throughout Year 7. Final key mathematics indicators showed that, by the end of the year, the majority of students had made some progress in most operations.

Intended allocation of funds for 2018/2019

Following CAT and SAT testing, and based on the recommendations of feeder schools, we have identified a group of Year 7 students with the lowest literacy and numeracy skills.

These students have been placed in a discrete foundation group, where they are taught mathematics, English, science and humanities by a specialist teacher. Students are still taught in normal mixed ability classes for other curriculum subjects such as D&T, music, art and drama.

Expected outcome
Ideally, students will be secondary-ready and, by the end of Year 7, able to re-join Year 8 students for all of their lessons.
