Year 8 rugby players recently travelled to Poole Grammar School to compete in a local tournament of local schools. This was their first outing as a team and they performed exceptionally well together.
Game 1: Lytchett 6 – 0 St Edward’s
This game saw a very dominant display from our Year 8s – their teamwork and determination broke through a very formidable opposition. Our forwards retained possession fantastically, allowing our backs to utilise the unoccupied space to score all of the tries.
Game 2: Poole Grammar 6 – 1 Lytchett
Poole Grammar has the area’s number one school rugby team. An extremely close first half saw Lytchett down 2-1. Poole managed to take advantage of our team’s tiredness from the first game to score another four tries.
Game 3: Winton 4 – 3 Lytchett
The last game was an extremely close affair, with two evenly-matched teams who had both played two games prior to this match. To say it was a game of two halves would be an understatement! Initially, Lytchett scored three tries very quickly: our team’s pace and power broke through Winton’s defences. However, in the second half, Winton utilised their quick-running backs to score three tries in quick succession. In the final minute of game, their biggest player managed to bundle the ball over our try line to score the winning try.
The boys played fantastically for the entire tournament, representing the school with pride.
