Staff Receive Attachment Training

On Wednesday, 4 September, Lytchett Minster School’s staff participated in a training day focussing on attachment, provided by Dorset Council and delivered by Kate Cairn Associates.

The staff team was introduced to the basic mechanisms of the brain and how it grows, with a particular emphasis on how it reacts to stressful situations. Using creative examples and some very thought-provoking anecdotes, Tom Pyne was able to demonstrate the various signs that should be evident in students who experience attachment disorders, as well as how to help them once the problem has been identified.

Case studies were used for group work, helping staff to understand how to put theory into practice. Both teaching and support staff now feel far better equipped not only to deal with challenging behaviour but also to understand its root causes and to help children recover.
